Our studio classes are unique in that students work closely with professional working artists on individual projects at their own pace and level. This allows the flexibility to have projects that are fast-paced, process-oriented and experimental in expression, as well as having time available for more intricate, intensive projects. Class sizes are strictly limited to allow plenty of individual instruction and maintain the process of unique expression for each artist.

The session begins with a portfolio project which will then serve to store 2D works in progress and to safely transport work home at the end of the session. Projects will include painting on canvas using acrylic paint and other mixed media, including assemblage for students who are interested in working in 3 dimensions or at a different scale than the usual. We will focus on gradually indtroducing new concepts while meeting students at their respective levels so that they may proceed down their own path.
About the Instructor
Ryan Scails is currently working out of his studio in Bethel, CT. His most recent solo exhibitions include Able Bodies at 287 Gallery (Danbury, CT) Object Lessons|Adaptive Research at High Desert Test Sites HQ (Yucca Valley, CA) and (Gardens) of Feeling and Fervor at Chinatown Soup (New York). Ryan received his BFA from Cooper Union in 2014 and he likes to acknowledge how the built world gives humans context in ways that confront the limits of our bodies and the matter that surrounds us. The results include compounded drawings with unreasonable layers of material, overbuilt paintings composed for structural integrity and forms that embrace the idea of saturation.
